I improvised a workshop in my grandfather's shed. It's the place where I like to paint seascapes. I asked grandma if she ever had a hobby. What's that? All I knew was how to work the land, to take care of the house, the children and the man, she told me. One night I caught her in the shed. Barefoot and without a kerchief, she sat on a log and she looked at my paintings. I think I found a hobby too, she told me. After I milk the cow and close the chickens, I like to come here and look at your oceans.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
