Miți was the mistress of the house, volunteer and capricious. He would have banished her from their common life, but he knew she kept the mice away from the house from the edge of the field. When Miți died, he didn't buy another cat. The neighbours came, looked at the house, the field and nodded. If he didn't buy another cat, it would be full of mice. That's exactly what happened. Now everyone avoided his house. He couldn't care less, because his joy was to wake up at night from the squeaks in the attic and silently say: the things Miți would do to them now.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
