Night, darkness and insomnia. I was wandering around the house when I bumped into a body tossed on the chair. Shit, a thief. I'm the opposite of Satan, thundered the body. A light blinded me and I went mute, I had recognized him. Firstly, he lectured me. He said it is not fair for us to keep calling him, he has the right to rest, to a pension, to a vacation. Then he asked for 300 lei to get to Mamaia beach. Before he left he told me I could ask him for anything. My voice came back: What more can I ask from you, my Lord, when you don't even have enough money to get to a damn beach?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
