Mom, it's not like home here. In here, you get arrested for all sorts of things. On this planet, one does not steal, does not kill, people don't argue. If you raise your voice, they lift you up immediately. Here, love is essential. Maliciousness is fined. Here, everyone hugs each other. Look, I know we weren't very close. You yelled at me a lot, hit me a lot. We could be arrested if they saw us like this, cold. Please, hold me a little in your arms. My daughter, I don't know how to. I never knew. Please, teach me.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
