The shorter one-legged table wobbles as if it were an earthquake, she stares at me intensely and gestures like a hurricane. Her body is at war with her words just like a man that is forcefully taken out of their flaming house. The water in the glass moves chaotically, the ravage of emotions floods her universe, there is so much misery in this world, she sighs. We will love and protect him if he comes, I tell her and take away the morning-after pill from her hands and place it under the foot of the table. The earthquake stops, her pupils dilate with the incandescence of last night's volcano.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
