An effervescent anti-inflammatory pill, sizzling in plain water and hurried down her throat. This miracle had happened. Otherwise, she would not have had the strength to climb the mountain paths after a night of crazy dancing. She would not have run childishly to the deer to see him up close in the clearing. She wouldn't have slipped on the fern, squinting her leg. And he, the stranger, would not have taken her in his arms to the cottage. There, the sunset, and then the sunrise, would not have found them embraced. And the twins, the twins wouldn't have happened.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
