Hide, I whispered to the pharmacist, hastily untangling my hair. There were two of them, slamming their boots like the hinges of hell. The car was waiting outside, and he was inside, suffering from one of his common migraines. With the gun to my head, I prepared the dose. In the doorway, an officer smiled. Did he really feel that in two moments, as he steps towards the car, opens his fist and the Führer swallows the pill, he will be bound to me forever, through death and life, beyond the brief memory of the flesh or the perishing memory of worldly love?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
