You pick up the phone, unlock the screen. Do not answer. You tell yourself you hate him. He comes home. I went smoking with the boys. You swallow in vain. It hurts you. He lies, you know he was with her. He doesn't kiss you anymore, he doesn't touch you anymore. If you were a pill for preserving high school love in a jar of memories, he would spit on you without looking at you. It's over. You don't need him. You grow your wings in one night and leave. The first day of freedom is magical. The first sex with another one tastes like ice cream with oreo biscuits.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2021, the group has 7.000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
