Could the exit be this way, no, it's not, I fumble in the dark like a loony yo-yo, my fingers are bloody splinters, I drag them along walls hidden for thousands of sunsets, I've been going right for nothing, it's dark as in a dream with slivers of reality, could it be that way, no, it's not, I've hit my head on this sky before, surely outside is a purring Saturday, I'm a cannibal craving a hunk of sun, I've been this way before, if I could find a glimmer of light I'd drag it out enough to fill a life and this labyrinth of pointless rooms would start to make sense. Ah, there it is.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
