I've hidden my desires under my crystal mask, a gift from the fate-queen. Lies are my best armour, my feelings gilded poems. On the tip of my lance sits my heart, majestic, beating between two worlds. My kingdom has no strings because I've fashioned my crown with them. I own the most feared prisons of the eyes, which is why no one will look at me directly. My noblest of subjects are the shadow of that other I and I'm happy. Actually, you know what? I'm poor, I'm ugly and I have a small dick. Do you still love me now?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
