I go right and a wall collapses. I go left, another. The floor crumbles and I fall through. The ceiling caves in and the huge chandelier falls on top of me. The sounds of shattered crystal rings out far and deep. The light scatters in a thousand beams. The wind whistles everywhere, chases me. Prince Charming is dead, so is his horse. The castle has collapsed entirely. When I awoke there was a knave of clubs on my pillow, the wind was coming through the door and the little dog had run right through the castle of cards. Mr. Freud smiled diabolically.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
