I slowly closed the door and looked on, surprised. The green-carpeted corridor looked like meadow during early summer. Taking small steps, I made it to the stairs. I started to go down. Anyone seeing my dress gliding down the steps and the glimpse of my red velvet slippers appearing with every step would have thought I was some butterfly dancing in a poppy field. Above the last step I heard, as though in a dream: the queen never leaves the castle. Go back. No one has sought you out today. The sky of my eyes was full of stars beginning to fall.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
