Between flights to the front, they sometimes land near villages, people run to the plane, then stop, in shyness, not to force their fate and wait. He brings letters dirty with the dust of the trenches, illegible, but who is looking for another word besides "alive"? Today, however, the mountains are hungry, they swallow and spit out his ashes, and the pilot's last thought flies with it. However, when they look for him, after many days, it will still be heard above the valleys: wait for me, I will return, I love you, but the echo will have already taken the sounds away, towards the house.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
