My dear, it's Aunt Maria from the asylum, where your mother was. I know you couldn't get to America these days for the funeral. But she, poor thing, was not even buried, they took her to the crematorium and brought me the ashes. I put a pinch on the letter, I hope it doesn't stop at the customs house. That's how she wanted, the poor thing, to be a little closer to you. Forgive me if I upset you, but her soul was there for a long time, anyway. Extinguish her longing in the ocean, her dear boy.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
