I found Mia vegetating in the window seat. She was holding the envelope with the 24 ultrasounds in her hand. It looked like a shadow. Mia, please turn to me, to us. Turn, you say. You don't understand that I had 24 children and I lost them all. I consider them babies; I consider them mine. I didn't hold them in my arms, but I felt them in my stomach. With every loss, I lost myself in the world. I do not turn to you or to us, because now I have become the void left by them in me. I'm an abyss, my love.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
