When the last shovel of dirt hit the coffin, she left the cemetery unseen. It was the undertakers' task to level the grave who was going to become completely flat within a couple of weeks. When spring comes, he will plant small and delicate flowers, even sad ones, just like her. He will also replace the wooden cross with a marble tombstone. On the tombstone, he will carve her dying words: my heart was far too white - I'll be back for you. Then the man closed the book and whispered And this was your bedtime story.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
