I had postponed getting in there for too long. Had it been up to me, I would've never opened it. Rather than cleaning my soul, better move out of it, I said in the evening and turned off the light. The clock didn't ring in the morning. I woke up late with the sun in my face. The mirror told me it wasn't mine anymore. I went to the door and turned the doorknob. All the monsters from the closet rolled over me. The skeletons from the closet. Boogeyman from under the bed. As the night of the living dead approached, I stepped inside and pulled the door behind me.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
