In the dim light, we were enchanting together towards the bubbling pot. Someone trotted outside, shouting mom, mom. I have to go, I got worried. How do we do it? We looked at each other intensely, brown eyes into brown eyes. The hag grinned and handed me a jar, reciting swirls to the heart, two tablespoons of sweet breath, let the boil heal, you have 12 full hours. We both muttered bibidibobidi ram pam pam. I'll return tonight, I whispered, and slipped through the creaking door. With a bored sigh, the old woman snapped her fingers and it turned dark.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
