I was surrounded by aliens. I had retreated into the house. For a month the sky aliens had occupied our planet and we humans were in danger of becoming slaves. But I hoped to escape, I had prepared a refuge in advance. I still had to get there before these scouts caught me. I wouldn't be long and I'd be in a safe place. I opened the door to my room and went in. As I closed it, an alien grabbed it. I pulled on the door in desperation and managed to close it. I was safe. Was I?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
