Come on, get in here quick. Hurry, so no one sees you. I went in and lay down on the floor, for running had exhausted me. It was only after a good few minutes that I could look around. I was in a windowless room, for the walls were entirely covered with books. Real books, with paper tabs, like in the old days. I didn't get a chance to make a sound, for my saviour covered my mouth with his hand and whispered: happy are those who are persecuted for justice. Then the wound in my palm began to bleed.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
