I often think I hear them feebly at the end of the line, wondering if we'll see each other again. It's time to harvest de vines, I'm hearing that they hope to arouse. They're waiting for me with chicken in tomato sauce, I hear it won't be the same for anyone. With goat milk and cheese, I hear that the yard is upswept. I'll help them cut the acacias, I hear the hawks wheezing. The fence was gloomy too, I hear it's horrid under the cross. The puppy broke the chain screaming, I hear my mother's eyes crying. Becoming a grandfather from grandparents, as an adult I detach myself from the childhood.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
