I looked to my right, and my right wing was barely visible flying uncontrollably. To the left, my left wing was spinning away chaotically, scattering purple splashes in all directions. From my forehead my horn had been torn off, and blood was dripping into my eyes, clouding my vision. As if through a mist, I saw myself pass through the narrow space between two clouds, as through a door left ajar. Then I plunged into the swirling waters of the ocean, among my brothers, the dolphins. Who said unicorns don't exist?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
