Scratching its round belly, 2021 cries out. Come in, please. 2022 took a small step and stood in the doorway. 2021 looked behind its glasses, holding a less than orthodox calendar. Is that you? You're a bit skinny, but you're even. Heehee. 2022 stares blankly, not getting the joke. You've got work to do. They don't look where they're going and we're working our butts off. Here's a thick folder with all your work. You better keep them in their houses, they're running around like a bunch of fools again. What are you standing in the doorway for, brother? Leave it ajar, I'm leaving tomorrow.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
