If you look closely, there is a half-open door in every wall. I knew it better, as a child, and I watched the light lines of every world beyond every door at night. My parents could have persuaded me that they were only the splinters of the fire in the stove that shone on the walls, if one day I had not seen clearly how two eyes looked at me for more than a moment through the crack of one of the doors, until the girl Beyond caught her mother and said to her: not now, she cannot yet understand that you are her, when I am myself.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
