The sky had darkened and it started to snow. He saw a ray of light creeping in through the ajar door. He was hearing the pair of footsteps approaching. With a last effort, he started to push at the door. As it gave in, he started to run desperately through the field. The two were walking carefully, as not to startle him. The first, more hulky than the other, was hiding a curved knife behind his back. Surprised, they found the door wide open. Ionicăăă, the hulk yelled, did you leave the pigsty door unlatched again? You can forget the Christmas pork, you moron.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
