Like any child, I loved to dream. And I was really good at it. I could sit for hours staring at the horizon, making clever collages of all known or unknown stories. I seemed destined for a successful career in dreaming. But the milk was almost burnt, the keys were lost. I even got lost a few times myself. The family council has decided that I need to be seen by a psychiatrist. I took pills all my life and I never dreamed again. Until one day, as an old man, I forgot to take them.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
