Because I needed to escape a little from the marriage in which the routine was installed, I got a room at the hotel on the outskirts of town. Quiet. Towards evening I heard how a he and a she loved each other. Through the too-thin walls I could feel their moans and words choked with pleasure. The receptionist told me that they were lovers who had been coming there every year, on the same day, in the same room and loved each other for a night. I'd gone back to that hotel for four years, just to listen to them. Today I met them in the hallway. She was gorgeous. He was my husband.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
