I don't know who's the one who has invented the retiring pension, I swear, I think he has rather thought of the absurdity of life, he has thought that people have to clear up their things by retiring from life to a land that which is going to need and expression. It seems to be a rustication after a war against the life. You're happy you're alive, but life has worn you more than you've worn it. You have pushed your projections of happiness toward a land of illusions. I don't retire, and I wouldn't even know how to do it, I've signed, since the day I've been born, the employment documents to my own happiness.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2022, the group has 7,950 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
