Shopping list for February 7th, 8th, and 9th: 10 eggs, Zuzu milk, flour, chicken breast, pepper, bagel. Estimated total: 40 lei. That's all I have left until February 15th. I open the fridge: pickles, mashed vegetables, and some milk. Should I give up chicken and buy more vegetables? I can eat mashed vegetables until February 15th. I don't really like it that much, put I can do it. Can I call somebody? All my friends are dead. I'm ashamed to call my family. Shopping list: 4 eggs, milk 365, pepper, bagel, vegetables to make mashed vegetables.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
