I immediately understood what her suffering was. She loved her husband, but she loved her lover even more. He was moving to a dead end. Should she remain his wife, should she follow her heart already addicted to the man who has turned his universe upside down? His name was Vasile, he was a cook and lived in apartment 5. That is what Ana, my neighbour, confessed on the phone to someone else, probably to a friend. I pulled my ear off the glass pressed against the wall to hear better, then I went to the kitchen and told Vasile to pack his bags and get the hell out of here.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
