He entered the church dejectedly and rushed into the first confessional that had an open door. He hesitated for a moment, he'd never done this before. But he felt some movement on the other side of the window and began to prattle. Father, I cheated on my wife. With her best friend. The silence on the other side gave him courage. He felt his burden lifted. And it's not the first time, he goes on. With the neighbour upstairs as well. And with the corner shopkeeper. You son of a bitch, he then heard a woman's voice. He recognized her. It was his wife. It was the wrong door.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
