I sat for hours with my phone in my hands and my eyes glued to the screen. The anticipation was making my stomach churn. When I saw he wasn't texting me anything, not a word, I pulled my boots over my bare feet, covered my hot skin with my long overcoat, then walked to his door. I went in without knocking, took off my boots, hung my coat on the peg and got into bed beside him. That was my nightly dream. Otherwise, I have no idea what I did. All I know is that I clutched my phone in my hands all night.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2022, the group has 8,050 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
