I am making my way in fear through the tall weeds which hide the old house, dilapidated, with a part of the roof missing. The front door is almost falling. I push it and, through the cloud of dust, I can notice how the time passed avidly all over the mouldy walls. The mirror, full of dirt and spider webs, cracked in some places, but it still holds on in the rusty nail. I wipe it clean with the back of my hand. From a piece of glass, an old, wrinkled woman grins weirdly at me. Long time ago, there was a white bird smiling at me, unrealistically beautiful. You have come back, said softly the angel.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2022, the group has 8,175 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
