And when he was most ardently sleeping, he felt a sting on his leg. Hungover with Palinka, he looked twice, trying to make sure he wasn't imagining it. An embalmed beast, calling itself his wife, was disturbing his slumber. Wake up, Kissy. Why don't you drink some of this cabbage juice to wake up? You made a legend of yourself last night. You picked a fight with our godmother, you told our mother-in-law she's as fat as a pig, you danced Perinița with our father-in-law and you acted as if you were Emilia Eberle when they brought the bride's cake. You did such a split that we had to call the ambulance. You were talking in a thin voice.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2022, the group has 8,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
