When she fought with the black dude, like grandma says, Mara tucked her girl under her arm and returned to her childhood home. With its porch and attic full of ham and dried plums. She was a lively chocolatey minnow of a girl with eyes so vivid they sometimes rustled. At night the girl sat on the porch with the kitty on her lap babbling something. She started smelling more and more often like seaweed, somehow and one day while Peter Green was making a racket in the loft and a curious albatross was taking a stroll on the house ridge, through the skylights shot out the overflowing ocean. With fish, with sand, corals and algae. Aloha.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2022, the group has 8,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
