snipped genius and I have understood that I can invoke all the books I have read, all the choons I have heard, all the stars I have seen, but I am still afraid of what I do not know. And I am afraid of the normality legislated by people who live ordinary lives, who preach peace and contempt for dreamers. Will the ordinary judge and analyse me as a failure? Will they blame me for my solitude? Their stubbornness does have a stroke of genius, for they artfully kill everything that is not like them. And then I approach the rocks and make a mountain out of them, I make the moon round and I build up my courage.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2022, the group has 8,750 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
