I was in your kitchen, and everything around us was from IKEA. I was looking at you and your flowing blonde hair and I was thinking, yes, I deserve this. After so many centuries of loneliness, I finally found a great woman. I was also proud of the fact that I lost weight and that I ended up living on my own. I was talking about you and how you wanted me for the person that I am, and I woke up with tears in my eyes. You took my face between your hands and looked at me worried with your blue eyes. All the happiness was truly painful. It's all good, I told myself. You deserve this.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
