It's really hot. I go out to buy my favorite watermelon icecream. I get home, I sit in front of the TV to watch cartoons. I hear my mother getting closer to the room. She's furious. I don't know why she is furious, but I know I am to blame for it. She starts yelling, I get scared. She's scolding me. It's my fault, I've been stupid, made a mistake and now she's angry. I'm to blame for her anger. It's my fault. Only my fault. I'm to blame, the cartoons are over, the icecream melted.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
