It's a blue universe. I have cocoa with milk and fresh bread every morning, new shoes that don't squeeze my feet, clean clothes, hair that is long shampooed and not silky and gas-scented, I have time to read, my hands are free of sores from endless rags washed in cold water, my back is straight and not crooked from Dad's belt, and I have two sandwiches every morning to share with my classmates. Didn't you get me some duty liquor? They didn't. But they gave you bread, huh? You're not going to school tomorrow, I'll crack your head open if you don't bring me a bottle.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
