I'm standing on my head. For resettlement. When the top floor becomes the first, I roll over and skip years. The house seems bigger and I seem smaller. Grandpa wears a plaid shirt and polished knee-length pants from shoe mending. I smell of prepaint and paint. I'm stepping into a lady's heels. Guban, fine leather, and what a sole. She's a doctor, he says. I carefully drag them across the yard, so I don't lose them. What do you want to be when you grow up? An artist. Like Olympia. I've wanted to be an artist since I was two.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
