I'm a fairy. This evening I'll be in a serious battle so I must practice my magic. I can hear a low voice that makes my tummy ache. It's the monster. This is my chance to win the battle. I close my eyes and say the magic words to destroy him. I'm sure everything's going according to plan. I look around and my eyes, once full of hope and sparkle have now flooded with tears. Daddy has stolen my powers and he's won this battle, too. I wish I could be as brave as mommy.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
