Dear diary, I'm nine years old and I don't know any French yet, but I promise that in 10 years' time I'll be in Paris admiring the Eiffel Tower and eating escargot. This amuses me as I read it because I'm 19 and I'm just finding out now that I've wanted this since I was a little kid. I'd forgotten about the diary, came across it by accident while looking through the photo albums. I'm leaving for Paris tomorrow in an exchange. It seems surreal. I have to remember to try the snails even though I admit they don't sound tempting anymore. But the little kid in me deserves it. I'm sure that kid's the reason I've gotten this far.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
