The frozen peaks of the mountains still glistened, and from the valley the night slowly climbed, and along with it there was a young man with frowning face and determined step, sent by his people to watch, under the stars and the moon, the sleep of the gods scattered in the tightly wrapped, swaying easy by the gentle wind that came to earth in the shortest night. Boy, the old shaman had told him, opening the way for him, the Children of the Sun can descend from the sky at any time, on tar horses, wrapped in chains. Fear not, the condor in your heart is already floating over death.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
