At the church in the village the wooden plate whick was hearing, while we were raising the dust with our wooden swords. The chain had become a menacingly advancing army. We allied ourselves and started the counteroffensive. After winning the battle, we sat down on dry land. The sun was looking for our starry faces. Ilinca confessed to me that she fights every night with the corn field and that she would be happy if I joined her. I told her that my mother won't let me. Black clouds enveloped the village with force. Ilinca drew a pregnant woman on the ground with a stick.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
