Move, robber, to agricultural work, wretched bandit, to re-education, bourgeois intellectual, or you want to go back to the stones, to the canal, wretched skinny man, because a corner of bread and a cup of water weren't enough for you, Mr. electronic engineer, fuck your mother's electricity, the country needs corn for the proletarians. Between the canal and the sea is a cornfield. The blade protects me from the sharp leaves. I gnawed my watch into fleshy grains. The twilight sun shows me the opposite way, towards the east. At night I will swim in the sea.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
