Sometimes I surprise myself so much that I look at myself as if I saw a ghost. I am not the kind of woman who grieves that she was abandoned. Who is this woman that is laughing like a lunatic? Is this face twisted with hate and malice mine? Who is the one that is comforting a child, keeping him close to the bosom, with her eyes full of love? It is good to succeed in spying on yourself, being able to detach and see yourself in the essential light, the one of truth, not the one that brings value. This is the spy you should relate to. I hope he will be merciful.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
