I knew it was small and puny, laying below my window. I would look at it sometimes, it was growing too slowly. However, two years ago, as I was looking briefly out my window, I bumped into its green branches. When did you rise so high? It was my dream, he whispered, shivering two of its branches towards me. I heard you crying last night, and I cried as well. Yes, it indeed rained. Linden trees do not cry, but when I laugh, it rustles the leaves in the name of my happiness and surrounds me in their scented embrace. During autumn, when I listen to romance songs, he swings my yearning toward the horizon.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
