Two teenagers were staring at a peasant lying in the hay. Look how he's sleeping under the sun, no need for pills. Do you remember the last time you managed to fall asleep without the help of a therapist? That's what not having any worries does to one. The peasant scared off a fly with a book. The teenagers whistled in admiration. Would you look at that? We thought this guy's a clueless oaf and he's out there reading. Oh. "One hundred years of solitude". He ripped off a page and rushed towards a bush. He came back wiping his hands on his pants. What are you staring for? The nobleman threw his books out. And I'm allergic to leaves.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
