I put my heart on a plane and sent her to the Pole, to do whatever she wants. She got off the plane and out she went into the frozen airport, trembling all over, dragging along the suitcase full of memories I wanted to get rid of. I packed away my traumas, my pain, told and untold lies, failures, hospital visits, files with that diagnosis written all over them, and last but not least, photos of all those who had deceived me. Poor heart, she was panting on the way to the hotel. She would stay away from me for one hundred years, and I would be left with a hollow chest. That was until I found you and you made me full.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
