I stood barefoot in the wet grass under the coming of morning. I closed my eyes and felt roots growing from my soles and connecting me to the beginning of the world. The wind was blowing, but I stayed still, with only my hair clinging to the rain that was about to fall. At one point, I undressed and was naked. Past loves appeared from behind the trees, one after another. We looked straight into each other's eyes and asked for forgiveness. Forgive me, I told them. Forgive me, they answered me. Then they went through me, or maybe I through them. We loved each other.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
